  The ABUW’s primary focus is to raise and distribute funds in support of organizations providing care to area residents within the following categories: • Children & Youth In addition to the financial support we provide — thanks to the generosity of our donors — you’re invited to read more about how the ABUW’s Community Forum series is working to address significant unmet needs in our towns. For the 2009–2010 program year, see how we are making a difference by supporting the following agencies, organizations and programs: Introducing the Acton-Boxborough Coalition for Healthy Youth - a new resource formed through a Challenge Grant Initiative from the ABUW to help identify and fill gaps in services for youth in the Acton and Boxborough communities. Mentoring programs for disadvantaged youth Specialized Counseling for students engaged in risky behaviors Scholarships for quality child care to financially stressed families Assistance to youth and their parents in making the transition to adolescence Social opportunities for developmentally disabled adults Therapeutic and vocational services for children and adults with disabilities Advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence, in partnership with the Acton and other local Police Departments Pro bono legal assistance for violence victims and others Adult day program for frail elders and those with dementia Well-being classes, social programs and services to Acton seniors Social programs, classes, day trips and services to Boxborough residents Health benefits counseling, Meals-on-Wheels for homebound seniors, financial management assistance Family Counseling/Support Services Outreach and intervention, case management, and support services to residents who live in state-aided housing in Acton and Boxborough. Tutoring services for non-English speaking adults, as well as literacy skills training Hot meals served weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:00PM to 6:45PM at the Acton Congregational Church Parish Hall at 12 Concord Road, Acton. Food for those in need serving residents of Acton, Boxborough and surrounding towns; located at the rear entrance of St. Matthews United Methodist Church at 435 Central Street in Acton. One time emergency financial assistance Construction of single family home for deserving family in need Provides furniture, small appliances and household items for families in need Food for those in need serving residents of Acton, Bolton, Boxborough, Lancaster, Maynard and Stow; located at The First Parish Church in Stow. Counseling and mental health services for chronically ill patients Vocational rehabilitation program for mentally ill adults
