The Mission of the ABUW is to raise funds - and awareness - as well as to award grants to area organizations and agencies working to address the social service needs of our community. In order to do that, we must stay in touch with the folks in the community on the 'front lines', those who work with our neighbors in need. One way we do that is through our Community Forums which bring together area agencies, clergy, school and town officials, and other key providers who serve Acton and/or Boxborough residents. It is an opportunity for us to learn what challenges they face, what needs are increasing or not being met, and it's an opportunity for providers to meet, network and exchange ideas with one another for possible solutions or collaborations. We held another of these Forums on November 29th - it was an amazing morning. Read the Forum Notes to learn about the needs of our neighbors, and the concerns of our community. Follow our collaborative work to address these issues through local media and our website.
AB Youth in Philanthropy Program Awards Grants
We recently told you about our new relationship with the AB Youth in Philanthropy Program, which teaches High School students about the various aspects of philanthropy - fundraising, grant issuance, proposal review and grant distribution. Equally important, the program raises the awareness of the students to the many social service needs that exist right here in their own communities.
The cycle for this year's program recently concluded with a very impressive presentation by the students which included their description of grants reviewed, and grants awarded. Watch for more information in January - we're sure you'll be as impressed - and as proud - of these students, as we certainly have been. |
Thank you for your interest in the ABUW, and for your concern for neighbors in need. We welcome your thoughts, questions, and ideas any time - please feel free to contact us at abuw@abuw.org.
Would you please help us by forwarding this email on to friends and neighbors? Thank you!

Sincerely,
Your Neighbors at the Acton-Boxborough United Way |
