American families are experiencing high levels of stress! The recent report by the Surgeon General highlights that 48% of parents feel overwhelmed. Don’t despair! The Wellness Team of Acton-Boxborough United Way is responding to stress in our community with this year’s focus: the Nourish Project.
Starting this fall, the Nourish Project will promote well-being through healthy eating, and highlight the importance of nourishing mind and body. Research shows that a healthy diet can support brain health, improve mood, and even reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Our project kicks off this fall with the creation of a Community Cookbook. Cooking is an act of joy, something we can savor and have fun with. It can bring up fond memories, help us connect with loved ones, and feel rooted in our culture. We look forward to highlighting recipes that reflect the diversity of the Acton and Boxborough community.
In February as thoughts turn to comfort food and football snacks, our Tasting Week will engage partners across the community in nourishing mind and body. Local restaurants and food purveyors will profile recipes or ingredients that promote healthy options. A community-wide drive will support food security partners serving our neighbors.
Finally, as we turn toward spring, we’ll come together as a community to hear from experts on different aspects of “nourishment” -- empowering each of us to reduce stress, to provide healthy nourishment, and to enhance connectedness through mealtime.
Join us to nourish your mind and body and help us promote well-being across the community! Learn, contribute, experience, and share in the journey toward a healthier, happier and more balanced life. Explore more at abuw.org/nourish.
